About Us
In 2005 the Government began setting up a network of Surestart Children’s Centres across the country to provide a range of flexible services for families and carers with young children aged 0 – 5 years old. The Government's aim was for every child, whatever their background or their circumstances, to have the support they need to:
- Be healthy
- Stay safe
- Enjoy and achieve
- Make a positive contribution
- Achieve economic well-being
6 years on, there are now 6 Children’s Centres in Watford (for details of other Children's Centre's in Watford, please see the downloadable leaflet below or visit: www.hertschildrencentres.org.uk), with a total of 82 across Hertfordshire. Children’s Centres are dedicated to building strong and safe communities, offering the best start in life for every child and aim to build on good existing services rather than starting new ones where it’s not necessary.
Westfield Children’s Centre was opened by Lord Laming in 2005 on the site of Westfield Community Technology College. We offer a wide range of services to children under five years old and their families within the Holywell and Vicarage Ward communities, ensuring that every child gets the best start in life. Please see our ‘Diary’ for a timetable of our current events and more information on the regular services we provide. The majority of our play & support sessions run during school term time only, however we do run a programme of activities throughout the school holidays.
Holywell Primary School became the Interim Lead Agency for the Children's Centre from 1st April 2011, however we are still based on the site of Westfield Community Technology College. The entrance to the Children's Centre & Pre-school is on Croxley View through the second car park of the college and is clearly signposted.
Since opening Westfield Children’s Centre has built strong relationships with local families, professionals and other local service providers and we currently offer a wide range of services plus helpful information and support for families.
