What is a Children's Centre?

Children’s Centre’s have been established so that children under five and their families can benefit from a range of flexible services and support when they need it and in a convenient location.

Services run from different venues within the The Lanes Children's Centre area to ensure that families can access the services locally.

As a family you may need to know about antenatal and post natal care; breastfeeding support; parent and toddler groups; child minders; pre-schools and other early year’s settings. You may have worries about your child’s sleeping patterns; feeding; and behaviour problems or other child development issues. This is when the children's centres staff can assist you with the support and information you need.

We have services or activities supporting you in the everyday challenges that parents face in bringing up young children.
The Children’s Centre should be your one-stop shop for information and support.

The Lanes Children’s Centre provides and sign-posts families to flexible services within the community that meet the needs of young children and their families. For parents and carers this can also include help with finding a job and training opportunities.

Not only can families become involved in Children’s Centres by using the services provided, there will also be opportunities to participate in events and other activities. They may be able to volunteer on projects or in the Children's Centre, for example, helping with community activities such as fun days and fundraising events.

There will also be opportunities for parents and children to learn together, such as healthy eating projects where families can learn to cook and eat healthy meals together.

The services and activities will be designed and developed to meet as many of your needs as possible. Parental participation will ensure that the Children’s Centres will grow to provide the services and opportunities to benefit local families as well as the wider community.
