About Us
The Sopwell & Verulam Children’s Centre:
- Acts as a local resource centre with information and sign-posting to:
- local early years services such as childcare, toddler groups and early education (pre-schools & nursery schools);
- local health and maternity services;
- parenting & family support services;
- employment & Job Centre Plus information for parents & carers looking for work;
- Supports local childcare providers, including local childminders (via a local childminding support group);
- Provides family support services, including inclusive drop-in stay & play sessions, strengthening relationships between children and their parents & carers;
- Seeks to offer support for disabled and cronically ill children and parents, and children & parents with additional needs;
- Through community consultation identifies user-defined gaps in services, and works with local professionals and providers to fill these gaps and meet local need;
- Helps to meet to needs of young families, and so providing the best start in life for local children whilst also supporting and strengthening the local community.
Consultation with local families and service providers is crucial to find out what is needed and wanted. Where is the Sopwell & Verulam Children’s Centre?

The Sopwell & Verulam Children’s Centre is based on Mandeville Drive, next to Mandeville School. It opened in Summer 2008, with an official opening day on July 10th 2008. Please see the September 2008 (Issue 1) Newsletter for more information about how the open day went.
