Inclusion
It is important that all local children and parents & carers feel able to access support from their local children’s centre. Sometimes certain families in the community find it more difficult to access general services or are made to feel unwelcome or excluded.
It is therefore very important that Children’s Centre actively engage, encourage, welcome and support these families, and that the environment within the Children’s Centre reflects this.
If you are a local family and have either been made to feel unwelcome at services in the past or simply feel unsure whether the services that the Sopwell & Verulam Children’s Centre offer are for you, please contact Pippa, the Children’s Centre Manager (details at the top of the page), to discuss this in confidence, and to discuss what type of services would benefit you and your family.
We would love to hear from you about your needs and also your past experiences (to avoid negative ones and learn from positive ones).
A list of some families that may have in the past felt excluded or unsupported are below. Please note that this list is not exhaustive:
- Dads;
- Single or lone parents;
- Teenage or young parents;
- Older carers;
- Families with children on the child protection register
- Minority ethnic families, including traveller families;
- Families with disabled or chronically ill children or children with additional needs or exhibiting challenging behaviour;
- Families with disabled or chronically ill parents/carers, or parents/carers with additional needs;
- Families with physical or mental health issues;
- Unemployed parents or families on low incomes;
- Families with a partner/s in prison;
- Parents with drug or alcohol problems;
- Families in temporary accommodation;
Children’s Centres aim to make themselves accessible and welcoming to all families.
