What is an Early Years Family Support and Parenting Worker?

An Early Years Family Support and Parenting Worker is someone who has specialist training in understanding the developmental needs of young children. They are also skilled in helping parents/carers recognise and respond to their young children in a constructive way. Our workers have early years qualifications and are experienced in working with families.

How can Early Years Family Support and Parenting Workers help support families/carers with young children?

There are a number of ways in which support is given to parents/carers and the method adopted will depend on their individual circumstances.

  • Group Work – Positive Parenting, Accident Prevention, Nutrition, coping with Tantrums, Routine Building, to name a few
  • Short-Term Task Centred Work – the family support worker will undertake a planned period of contact with a family who are experiencing difficulty
  • Community Development – support workers recognise the need to help develop services for families/carers and young children where gaps have been identified. They will work actively with individuals, groups and communities to develop drop-in facilities, venues for workshops where there is an unmet demand
  • Helping parents get back into training and employment
