Barleyfields Children's Centre marked its official opening - and three year-old Jamie made sure the celebrations went with a swing. Jamie, who was three on the same day, cut the cake with children's centre manager Sue Smith, to celebrate Barleyfield's designation as a Sure Start Children's Centre.
The centre, which is based in new premises at Woolmer Green Village Hall, has been running services for families in Knebworth, Woolmer Green and Oaklands for over a year. Services range from stay and play and baby groups held at Woolmer Green to messy play and music group sessions in Knebworth.
The Barleyfields name was chosen by families who use the centre because of the fields linking the three villages. It is run by the Pre-School Learning Alliance which is the lead agency for this and seven other children’s centres across Hertfordshire.
Deputy Executive Member for Children’s Services, Dave Hewitt cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony, and Pre School Learning Alliance Acting Chief Executive, Neil Leitch also joined in the fun.
Jane Pitman, Executive Member for Children's Services, said: "Families in Knebworth, Woolmer Green and Oaklands really value the opportunity to socialise and get the advice, information and support that Barleyfields can offer. The local community helped to choose the range of activities that young families can enjoy and I wish Barleyfields continued success." |
