Children's Centres in Hertfordshire

Children’s centres are an important part of the Every Child Matters agenda. They provide access to universal, targeted and specialist services for children, young people and families in their local communities. In Hertfordshire we have joined up the development of extended schools and children’s centres into a single initiative.

In 2006, and in accordance with the guidance for the roll out of children’s centres by the Department for Children Schools and Families (DCSF), we identified catchment areas (communities or reach areas) for 82 children’s centres to cover all of Hertfordshire by 2010.

Nearly all of these communities fall within District and Borough Council boundaries. District Children’s Trust Partnerships will be the key planning and commissioning groups for local services including children’s centres and extended schools.

Further information can be obtained from the Family Information Service on 01438 737502 or 01923 471502 (for local Watford rates).
